The ride to the Ourika-valley, 68 km southeast of Marrakech, is a pleasant journey through the lower foothills of the Atlas. Once you've passed the town of Tnine-de-l'Ourika the valley through which the Ourika flows, turns green. On Mondays, the biggest souk of the valley is held here.

Along the entire route, following the course of the wadi, you can see hamlets of pise and some isolated houses and small hotels on the slopes of the hills. Down in the valley there are gardens and pieces of cultivated land that are shaded by numerous fruit trees. At times, the river Ourika can burst its banks violently, like in August 1995, when many houses were swept away. Past Arhbalou, on a height of 1500 m , the valley gets narrower and slowly rises. The road ends at Setti Fatima, a good starting point for trekking. Seven waterfalls flow across the ruinous hill over the village.

The first can easily be reached by following the course of the wadi. The walk to the others leads across rougher terrain and sometimes involves climbing, so you will need good hiking shoes.

This spot affords a splendid view of Setti fatma. You can also take the village as starting point for longer hiking tours to Jbel Toubkal and Jbel Yagour, well known for hundreds of rock carvings near the top. The tomb of Setti Fatima is the focus of a moussern that is held in the village by mid August. This religious pilgrimage also gives Berbers from the surrounding area the opportunity to meet up.
